What Is a Fiber Box?

A fiber box — also called a fiber optic termination box, fiber distribution box, or fiber optic enclosure — is a key infrastructure component in any fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), fiber-to-the-building (FTTB), or FTTx network. It serves as the physical endpoint where incoming fiber optic cables are terminated, spliced, organized, and distributed to end users or downstream equipment.

Core function: A fiber box integrates cable termination, fiber splicing, optical splitting, cable storage, and distribution into one protected enclosure — keeping fiber connections clean, organized, and shielded from moisture, dust, and physical damage.

Depending on installation environment and network architecture, a fiber box may be designed for indoor wall mounting, outdoor pole mounting, underground manhole installation, or direct burial. IP protection ratings from IP54 to IP68 define how well a unit resists water and particulate ingress — a critical factor for outdoor deployments.

At Glory Optical, we manufacture the full spectrum of fiber boxes: from compact 2-port termination boxes for residential FTTH drop points, to 576-core outdoor splice closures for backbone infrastructure projects. Every unit is built with high-grade ABS engineering plastic or ABS+PC composite materials, and tested under real-world environmental conditions before shipment.

 ABS Engineering Plastic

Standard material for indoor and light-duty outdoor fiber boxes. High impact resistance, lightweight, UV-stable, and available in custom colors. Ideal for wall-mount FTTH applications with IP54–IP65 requirements.

 ABS + PC Composite

Enhanced flame-retardant and temperature-resistance properties. Used in environments with higher thermal cycling, such as outdoor pole-mounted distribution boxes and enclosures in tropical or extreme climates.

 Alloy / Metal Shell

Available on request for heavy-duty industrial or underground applications. Provides superior mechanical protection (IK09 rating) alongside IP68 waterproofing, suitable for direct burial or manhole deployment.

 Mechanical Sealing Systems

Screwless or bolt-sealed designs with integrated gaskets eliminate the risk of water ingress. Our dome-type and inline splice closures use heat-shrink or mechanical sealing to maintain IP68 integrity under 1 meter of water immersion.

Three Core Fiber Box Categories

Glory Optical's fiber box range covers every layer of the FTTH access network — from the feeder cable termination point down to the subscriber's wall outlet.

Most Popular

Fiber Optic Termination Box

A fiber optic termination box (FTB) is a wall-mounted or rack-mounted enclosure that acts as the final termination point for the feeder cable at the user premises or distribution node. It houses SC/LC/FC adapters and pigtail splice trays, providing a clean, organized patch point between the optical distribution network and end-user equipment.

Available in 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, and 48-port configurations. Supports both fusion splicing and mechanical splicing methods. Indoor IP54 and outdoor IP65 ratings available.

Fiber Optic Enclosure (Splice Closure)

Fiber optic enclosures — including dome-type splice closures, inline closures, and horizontal closures — are designed to protect fiber cable splices in outdoor, underground, aerial, and conduit environments. They seal multiple fiber cables together at branching or mid-span points in the backbone network.

Our enclosures support loose sleeve, skeleton, ribbon, and ADSS cable types. Capacities range from 24 fibers to 576 fibers (e.g., GL-03E-576C dome closure). Heat-shrink and mechanical sealing options ensure IP68 performance even in flooded underground chambers.

Fiber Optic Wall Outlet & Distribution Box

Fiber optic wall outlets (also called face plates or subscriber outlet boxes) are the final connection point inside the subscriber's home or office. They provide a clean, recessed or surface-mount housing for one or two SC/LC adapters, and connect the FTTH drop cable to the user's ONT equipment.

Our NAP boxes (Network Access Point) and CTO/FDB distribution boxes serve the second-stage splitter point in GPON/EPON networks — connecting feeder cables to drop cables for multiple subscribers. Pre-connectorized versions (factory-terminated pigtails) reduce on-site installation time by up to 70%.

Where Fiber Boxes Are Used

From the telecom operator's central office to the subscriber's living room, Glory Optical's fiber boxes are deployed at every layer of modern fiber optic access networks.

FTTH / GPON Networks

Fiber termination boxes and NAP distribution boxes are deployed at building entry points and kerbside cabinets in residential FTTH rollouts. Our pre-connectorized CTO boxes reduce splicing labor and accelerate subscriber activation in high-volume GPON or EPON deployments.

Commercial Buildings (FTTB)

Multi-tenant office buildings and apartment complexes use fiber distribution boxes (FDB) and larger enclosures (24–96 core) in basement IDF rooms or riser shafts. ABS+PC materials provide fire-retardant performance for indoor riser applications.

5G Fronthaul / FTTA

With 5G infrastructure demanding dense small-cell deployments, fiber termination boxes designed for pole-mount and cabinet-mount applications are critical. Our IP65/IP68-rated outdoor units withstand UV exposure, wind, rain, and temperature extremes from −40°C to +85°C.

Data Center Cabling

High-density fiber enclosures and patch panels protect MTP/MPO trunk cables and organize structured cabling in modern data centers. Rack-mount termination boxes (1U–4U) with 24–144 SC or LC ports integrate cleanly with data center infrastructure.

Aerial & Underground Networks

Dome-type and inline splice closures protect fiber cable joints on utility poles, in conduit, or in direct-burial scenarios. IP68-rated mechanical sealing maintains integrity in flooded underground chambers — critical for long-haul and metro network builds.

Industrial & Campus Networks

Manufacturing plants, universities, hospitals, and government campuses rely on robust fiber distribution infrastructure. Our alloy-shell enclosures with IK09 impact ratings meet the demands of heavy industrial environments with foot traffic and equipment risks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before selecting or ordering fiber boxes from Glory Optical.

Q: What is the difference between a fiber termination box and a fiber distribution box?

A: A fiber optic termination box (FTB) is a compact unit that terminates the end of an optical cable and provides connection points (via adapters and pigtails) for one or more subscriber drops. It typically handles 2–48 fibers and is installed at the building or subscriber level. A fiber distribution box (FDB or ODB) is a larger, more complex enclosure that not only terminates the incoming feeder cable but also integrates a PLC splitter to distribute the optical signal to multiple subscribers. Distribution boxes in FTTx networks serve as the second-stage splitting point — connecting feeder cables from the primary equipment room to individual drop cables for 8, 16, or 32 subscribers simultaneously.

Q: What IP rating do I need for an outdoor fiber box?

A: For pole-mounted or wall-mounted outdoor applications exposed to rain and dust, a minimum IP65 rating is recommended. IP65 ensures complete dust protection and resistance to low-pressure water jets from any direction. For underground installations (conduit, manholes, direct burial), IP68 is required — this rating certifies the enclosure can withstand continuous submersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes or more. Our dome-type and inline splice closures are IP68-certified with additional IK09 mechanical impact protection. We do not recommend using IP54-rated units for fully exposed outdoor environments where standing water is possible.

Q: How many fiber ports or cores do I need for my project?

A: The correct port count depends on your network topology and subscriber density. For a typical single-family FTTH drop, a 2-port or 4-port termination box is sufficient. For apartment buildings, a 12–48 port distribution box per floor or per building block is common. For GPON networks using 1:16 or 1:32 splitting ratios, you'll need a distribution box that can accommodate 16 or 32 drop connections plus the splitter module. Our engineering team is available to help size your project correctly — provide us with the number of subscribers, network architecture (GPON/EPON/P2P), and installation environment, and we'll recommend the right products.

Q: Can I order fiber boxes with custom branding (OEM)?

A: Yes. OEM and ODM manufacturing is a core part of our business. We can produce fiber boxes with your company logo, custom colors, custom labeling, and tailored port configurations. Custom mold development is available for unique enclosure shapes or sizes. Our minimum order quantity for standard OEM (logo + color only) is typically 100–500 units per SKU. For new mold development, please contact us to discuss tooling costs and timelines. Sample approval is required before mass production. Lead time for OEM mass production orders is typically 15–25 working days after sample approval.

Q: What connector types are compatible with Glory's fiber boxes?

A: Our fiber boxes are compatible with all standard fiber optic connector types: SC (Subscriber Connector), LC (Lucent Connector), FC (Ferrule Connector), and ST (Straight Tip). Both simplex and duplex adapter formats are available, and polishing options include UPC (Ultra Physical Contact) and APC (Angled Physical Contact). SC/APC is the most common interface for FTTH access networks in Europe and Latin America, while LC/UPC is popular in high-density data center environments. We can configure any adapter type into our termination boxes or distribution boxes — just specify your requirements at the time of inquiry.

Q: What is a NAP box, and how is it different from a regular termination box?

A: A NAP (Network Access Point) box — also referred to as a CTO (Customer Termination Outlet) or FAT (Fiber Access Terminal) box — is a specialized outdoor distribution box used in FTTH/GPON networks as a pre-connectorized, street-level distribution point. Unlike a basic termination box that simply provides a patching interface, a NAP box integrates fiber splicing, PLC splitting, and drop cable distribution in a single compact enclosure that is pre-loaded with connectors and pigtails at the factory. This allows field technicians to activate new subscribers simply by plugging in a pre-made drop cable — no fusion splicing in the field is required, significantly reducing deployment time and cost.

Q: Do you provide free samples before bulk orders?

A: Yes. We provide free product samples for evaluation purposes. Standard catalog samples are available at no charge — you are responsible only for the shipping cost. For customized OEM samples, a nominal tooling or engineering fee may apply depending on the complexity of the customization. Sample delivery time is typically 3–7 business days for standard products. Please submit a sample request through our inquiry form or contact us via WhatsApp, and our sales team will arrange dispatch within 24 hours of confirmation.

Q: What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ) and delivery time?

A: For standard catalog products, our MOQ starts at 50–100 pieces per model, and many items are held in stock for immediate shipment. For custom OEM products, MOQs typically start at 200–500 units. Production lead time for standard in-stock items is 3–7 days. For made-to-order products, lead time is 10–20 working days depending on complexity and order volume. We ship via DHL, FedEx, UPS, and sea freight (LCL/FCL). Dedicated account managers handle all export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and CE/RoHS compliance documents.
