OS2 MPO-24 to 2×MPO-12 Breakout Cable
Convert a 24-fiber OS2 distribution connection into two 12-fiber connection points with this Glory Optical breakout assembly. One female MPO-compatible 24-fiber end serves the common side, and two female 12-fiber ends serve the branches. All three interfaces use APC polish, with Type A wiring and a nominal 1 m cable length.
Connector-style illustration. The specified assembly has one 24-fiber common end and two 12-fiber branches; pictured colors and connector variants are illustrative. |
Keep a Base-24 Connection Available to Two Base-12 Paths24 total fibers · OS2 single mode · female APC terminations · Type A · 1 m · OFNP Use the assembly at a managed connection point where the planned system changes from a 24-fiber interface to two 12-fiber groups. Each branch provides its own multi-fiber termination, so the distribution drawing can identify and service the two groups separately. |
A Passive 24-Fiber to Two-Group Conversion
| Common interface | First branch | Second branch |
|---|---|---|
| One 24-fiber female APC connector | One 12-fiber female APC connector | One 12-fiber female APC connector |
| 24 populated optical paths | 12 assigned optical paths | 12 assigned optical paths |
| Type A configuration record | Branch identity to be confirmed on the drawing | Branch identity to be confirmed on the drawing |
The two branch groups account for the full 24-fiber population. This is passive fiber routing: the assembly does not divide optical power or perform a data-rate conversion. Confirm the precise position assignment and branch identifiers before releasing the cable schedule.

Ferrule Alignment, Spring Support and Cable Retention
Generic connector anatomy. Alternative gender hardware is shown together; the ordered common and branch ends are all female. |
Understand the Termination Before Planning Service AccessThe multi-fiber ferrule presents the optical positions at the mating face. The housing and its key establish the insertion orientation, while the internal spring mechanism supports the ferrule assembly. Different connector genders use different guide-pin hardware. For this configuration, the three terminations are pinless and receive the alignment pins from their mating interfaces. The drawing illustrates component principles rather than a 24-position or 12-position wiring map. At the rear of each connector, the retention parts and boot support the cable exit. Provide room to operate the latch and withdraw the connector without pulling against the other branch. |
| Hardware area | Installation consideration |
|---|---|
| Ferrule and optical face | Inspect the correct APC face and the specified position population for each end. |
| Gender hardware | Use complementary pinned mating interfaces for all three female terminations. |
| Housing key and latch | Record adapter orientation and leave access to the release mechanism. |
| Boot and rear retention | Support the cable transition without a sharp turn at the connector body. |
Coordinate Three Female APC Interfaces
Alignment concept showing pinned and pinless mating parts. APC polish and the fiber population are specified in the assembly data. |
List the Common Port and Both Branch Ports SeparatelyThe common connection requires an appropriate pinned 24-fiber APC counterpart. Each branch requires an appropriate pinned 12-fiber APC counterpart. Check the actual port hardware before selecting the adapters or cassette interfaces. Specify APC mating geometry consistently at every connection. Housing fit, connector gender and optical polish are separate selection checks; a port schedule should record all three alongside the fiber count. Type A identifies the assembly's wiring configuration. Trace the end-to-end position order through the complete channel, including any distribution modules, using the confirmed mapping rather than a generic gender diagram. |
Bring the Two Branch Groups into the Cabling Plan
Modular-distribution concept. Modules and downstream connectors shown are examples and are selected separately from this conversion cable. |
Adapt the Distribution Interface at the Patching PointA 24-fiber route can be presented as two 12-fiber groups at the selected distribution point. Coordinate each group with the appropriate cassette, patch panel or other compatible passive interface, keeping the position map with the port identifiers. The MPO patch-panel range provides a starting point for the mounting and cable-management discussion. Specify the loaded connector interfaces and module wiring when reviewing the optical configuration. Each 12-fiber group can be assigned within an appropriately designed distribution system. The downstream connector format and duplex pairing, where required, are determined by the chosen modules and equipment-side leads. |
Channel connection concept. The drawing illustrates a passive path; it does not define this cable's branch geometry or equipment compatibility. |
Check the Full Optical Path Before Assigning a Link RateSelect single-mode equipment and compatible interfaces for the planned channel. Optical wavelength, active-fiber requirements and the accumulated loss budget determine whether a particular equipment connection is suitable. The 1 m assembly is a short conversion segment within that channel. It does not establish the system reach or make a port support a different breakout mode. Confirm equipment requirements separately from the passive connector conversion. For multi-rack planning and port documentation, share the route and interface list with our data center cabling team. |
Route a Short Assembly Without Loading the Connectors
For the 3.0 mm cable, the stated 10D moving and 5D stationary bend allowances correspond to 30 mm during movement and 15 mm after installation. The 10 mm optical-fiber value is a separate glass-fiber rating. Apply the finished-cable allowance to the jacketed route and leave both branch exits clear of sharp edges.
Plan the branch transition around the specified 0.5 m breakout length. Leave enough room to identify, unplug and service one 12-fiber end while the other remains in its managed position. Confirm measurement points on the drawing when the available space is tight.
The installation tensile rating is 66 N. Keep this handling limit distinct from the 80 N long-term and 240 N short-term tensile-strength values. Arrange support so pulling force and connector side loads do not concentrate at the branch transition or latch.
Verify All 24 Paths and Retain the Measurement Record
Begin with Clean APC Faces and the Correct Reference Leads
Inspect the common ferrule and both branch ferrules before mating. Clean each optical face with tools suitable for its connector format, then reinspect as required. Include the opposite mating faces in the same inspection process.
Test the Wiring and Loss as Separate Acceptance Tasks
Trace every populated position from the 24-fiber end to its assigned 12-fiber branch. Record continuity and the agreed Type A mapping against the branch labels. This position test confirms the passive routing independently of any equipment configuration.
Measure optical performance with a suitable single-mode reference method at the agreed wavelengths. The connector maximum insertion loss is 0.35 dB; 0.15 dB is a typical figure. Minimum return loss is 60 dB. Define the reporting scope clearly and include the rest of the channel when checking the complete system budget.
