For the 3.0 mm cable, the 20D / 10D bend limits correspond to 60 mm during movement and 30 mm after installation. The 7.5 mm value applies to the optical fiber; use the finished-cable limits when routing the jacketed patch cord.

MTP® Connector Structure and Component Functions

US Conec generic MTP exploded view identifying dust cap, housing, ferrule, female pin spacer, male pin clamp, spring, spring push, crimp band and cable boot

Generic MTP® hardware architecture (US Conec). Male and female variants are illustrated; this OM4 assembly uses female UPC connectors.

From Fiber Alignment to Cable Strain Relief

The multi-fiber ferrule presents the 12-fiber array at the mating face. The keyed housing locates the connector in the adapter, while the spring and spring push support the ferrule assembly.

The female pin spacer and male pin clamp shown belong to different gender configurations. Both ends of this patch cord are female, with guide holes and no projecting alignment pins.

The rear crimp components retain the cable assembly, and the boot supports the cable transition. Keep protective caps fitted until inspection and connection.

Component group Function in the assembly
Ferrule and fiber array Present the 12 fibers at the connector mating face.
Keyed housing Provide orientation and retention at the matching adapter.
Spring and spring push Support the spring-loaded ferrule mechanism.
Female pin spacer / male pin clamp Alternative hardware for pinless and pinned connectors; this patch cord uses the female configuration.
Crimp band and cable boot Retain the cable and support the connector-to-cable transition.
Dust cap Protect the unmated interface during handling and storage.

Female Interfaces and Type B Polarity

Connector mating illustration (FOA): guide pins on one side align with guide holes on the other.

Check the Pinned Interface and Crossed Fiber Map

Both cable ends are female and must meet compatible pinned UPC interfaces. The adapter holds and orients the housings, while the guide pins and holes align the ferrules.

Type B reverses the 12-position fiber order from end to end: position 1 connects to position 12, position 2 to position 11, and so on. Its cable keying convention is key-up to key-up.

Confirm the adapter orientation, cassette wiring and optical-module Tx/Rx map as one channel. Connector gender, polish and the required active-fiber positions must all match the equipment.

Fiber positions at End A Matching positions at End B
1 · 2 · 3 · 4 12 · 11 · 10 · 9
5 · 6 · 7 · 8 8 · 7 · 6 · 5
9 · 10 · 11 · 12 4 · 3 · 2 · 1

Data Center Applications

Modular OM4 Cassette and Panel Connections

Use the patch cord between matched OM4 interfaces in a modular cabling system with suitable MPO patch panels. Specify the cassette fiber grade, adapter gender and internal fiber map together.

A suitable 12-fiber fanout module can route six duplex optical paths. The complete cassette and patch-cord combination must produce the required end-to-end polarity; modules and equipment-side leads are selected separately.

Multimode Rack Patching and SR4 Channels

The 1 m assembly suits short patching routes within a cabinet. Route the cable through the selected managers and keep service loops within the finished-cable bend limits.

Compatible 40G QSFP+ SR4 and 100G QSFP28 SR4 equipment uses the active fibers of a 12-position multimode interface. Confirm the module pinout, UPC receptacle, connector gender and Type B channel map; the selected optics and loss budget determine reach.

For equipment interfaces, rack routing and channel configuration support, see our data center fiber cabling solution.

Installation and Optical Acceptance

Inspect, Clean and Verify the Fiber Map

Inspect both mating end faces and clean them as required before connection. Verify all 12 paths and the Type B position map, then measure optical performance with suitable multimode test equipment and reference leads.

Record insertion loss and return loss against the agreed test method and acceptance limits. The 0.15 dB insertion-loss figure is typical; the specified maximum is 0.35 dB and minimum return loss is 27 dB. Include all mated connections, fiber length and passive components in the complete channel budget.

Route the Cable Within Its Mechanical Limits

Support the cable transition behind the connector, avoid connector side loading, and keep routing and service loops within the finished-cable bend limits. Select the jacket for the installation space and project requirements.
