Product Introduction

The Optitap SC/APC–SC/APC Optical Patch Cord is a single-fiber (simplex) cable assembly built around a 4.5×8.0mm flat FTTH drop cable with G657A2 bend-insensitive fiber. It is the final link between a fiber distribution point - like a FAT, MST, or pre-connectorized terminal box - and the subscriber's equipment. The connector at one end is an Optitap SC (a field-ruggedized, plug-and-play SC variant), and the other end is a standard SC/APC connector.
In plain terms: it's the drop cable you plug in at the curb-to-home boundary. You don't splice it. You don't strip it in the field. You just connect it and move on.
The 4.5×8.0mm flat profile is not an arbitrary choice. Flat drop cables are standard in FTTH last-mile deployments because they are easier to route along walls, run under door frames, or staple along baseboards without creating a tripping hazard or looking industrial. The G657A2 fiber classification means the cable tolerates tighter bend radii - as low as 10mm dynamic - which matters a lot when you're making a 90-degree turn around a door frame or running through a small conduit.
For reference, ITU-T G.657A2 is a specific international standard for bend-insensitive single-mode fiber. It is defined in the ITU-T G.657 recommendation, which covers 'Characteristics of a Bending Loss Insensitive Single-Mode Optical Fibre and Cable for the Access Network.' G657A2 allows tighter bends than the baseline G652D fiber used in trunk cables, which is why it's the right choice for subscriber drops.

Note on insertion loss: The ≤0.3 dB figure refers to the connector interface only. Total cable assembly IL = (2 × connector IL) + (fiber IL per km × cable length in km). For a 10m cable using standard G657A2 fiber (~0.4 dB/km at 1310nm), the added cable loss is under 0.005 dB - effectively negligible.

Application
